This album is devoted to a phenomenon of the "Lucid dreams".

A “lucid dream” - is a dream, in which the person is aware that he or she is dreaming while the dream is in progress. During lucid dreams you have control over the dream characters and environment, as well as the ability to perform otherwise physically impossible feats. The feelings which you feel during lucid dreams are very similar to those available during a waking state. Often they surpass the 'usual' with a saturation and intensity.

This phenomenon has been researched by such well-known researchers as Stephen LaBerge, Robert Monroe, Carlos Castaneda, etc.. The 9th book of Carlos Castaneda - "The Art of Dreaming" explains more fully the events occuring within this album.

At some point, both of these parties decided that joining forces would be a good move and had Makita lug over his toolbox to the Fistula practice space and drag out some of his most lethal circuit-shredders, keyboards and power tools. The end result are two new discs, Lessons In Lamentation and Inverted Black Star, each one possessed by a single hour-plus track of Fistula with Steve Makita conjuring fucking HUGUNGOUS slabs of apocalyptic free-metal. And it's Fistula's most abstract, demonic music ever, a charred mess of harsh electronic skree and gut-rumbling noise and unholy doom metal.

In contrast to it's companion disc Inverted Black Star, Lessons In Lamentation sounds like it's virtually "rocking". Where Inverted spews monoto-riffs and malevolent power tool noise across the jet-black waste of it's hour long length, this jam is more upbeat, opening with a massive chugging sludgy metal riff that cycles over and over, slowly joined by a swarm of sizzling feedback and high pitched sine-whine. Crazed shredding solos appear, the central riff changes shape throughout, the whole track seems to be split into three distinct sections. It's super hypnotic as Fistula grinds away endlessly surrounded by Makita's dense and textured noise. Deep monstrous vocals emerge from out of the filth, gutteral invocations that are impossible to decipher. A massive plodding industrial dirge, a meditation on repetitive metal riffing and the blackest feedback, recorded all the way in the red, a majestic crumbling obelisk of monstrous noise-doom.

The title itself points to the pure blackness of Inverted Black Star: a massive hour-plus wave of bleak, blackened improvised doom riffing, only one or two riffs tops, but each one repeated over and over into infinity as the band and Makita pile on layers and layers of corrosive feedback, pneumatic drill noises, slicing sinewave tones, long black tentacles of undulating drone. About halfway through the disc, a voice begins speaking underneath the crushing sludge and noise, and it creates an effect similiar to hearing a television news bradcast about something really bad from four rooms away, only to sink back into the lumbering, monotonous deathtrance. Utterly crushing.

Frank Rothkamm is the one of most interesting musicians of today, contemporary of industrial culture. He is a true underground figure, the fighter of invisible front, who realized a number of projects, produced great records for his own Flux Records label. [Artist statement] “The Frogs” is our most recent project. It is the second installment in the “Fauna” series coming step after “…for electronics and birds” (Stateart). As it says in the title this album is dedicated to the frogs and represent our collaboration with singer Victoria Hanna.

We met Victoria, amazing vocal artist from Jerusalem, a couple of years ago and from the very first time it was obvious for us that we’ll do something together. We played several concerts of chants vs. electronics in Israel and USA. One day Victoria sent us a tape with her vocal improvisations that she has recorded using some of our casual live recordings as a playback. She wrote: “Do with that what ever you want”. So we did.

We decided to create a totally new piece from this material. We used a lot of different techniques: from field environmental recordings to live electronics, from electroacoustics to pure synthesizer music, from free noise improvisation to endless drones. There were no compositional or conceptual limits except one thing: we tried to reconstruct that amazing feeling of infinite astonishment that probably Tutuola’s palm-wine drinkard felt traveling to the town of ghosts. Abby Helasdottir has been creating music since 1995 under the name Gydja (an Old Norse word for "priestess"). Initially, the aim of the project was to create music that could be used for magickal and shamanic purposes.

The current style of Gydja differs from the initial intentions of the project, with music of both a mundane and magickal nature being created. And whilst the music is usually linear and could be defined as a soundscape, it is also not necessarily always dark ambient in style, embracing electro-acoustic and experimental techniques.

Works designed specifically for magickal use sit alongside explorations of sound for sound's sake; and in a third tier, some exploration of sound contain magickal themes, even if there is no practical magickal application intended.

Consisting of two long tracks and clocking at about fifty minutes, "Helchemy" is Gydja's latest full-lenght work at the time of writing. The album title is a portmanteau combining the name of Hela, Germanic goddess of the dead, and the art of alchemy. As such, it considers the way in which imagery associated with alchemy can be related to Hela, particularly the motif of a venomous black toad that is found in many alchemical tracts.

As an album concept, "Helchemy" is something that the author has explored for several years, creating a version of the release based on cassette experiments in the late nineties. Nothing of this version appears in the current incarnation, but the themes which first initiated the idea are there.

"Helchemy" comes in a beautiful and inspired artwork created by Gydja herself.

Taking it's name from the aerial pollution god that faced off against Godzilla in the Japanese psychedelic kaiju classic Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971), Hedorah is fully documented on this sort-run disc that combines the track "From Beyond" from the split cassette with The Fortieth Day, "Planet Of Doom" from the Dr. Who Vs The Noise compilation, and five unreleased tracks. Hedorah proves to be a multi-tentacled beast: "Crystal Smoke" evokes a smog-ridden wasteland laced with acid-rock guitar soloing, pummeling industrial bass, and trance inducing beats, and ends up as some kind of grim krautrock jam. "Self Medicated" emits looping dialogue and whirring drones over monstrous throat chanting. "Hyperbolean" combines terrifying screams converted to echo-chamber hiss and overdriven, pummeling metal riffage thrust so far into the red that it sounds like there are flaps of speaker material smacking up against yer eardrums. The twenty-minute "Black Walls" is the apex of distortion though. That final track starts off as a sheet of obsidian ambience, a shimmering drone streaked by whirring noises, but then the riff appears, a massive three-chord doom dirge looming over the horizon, massively distorted and plodding, a hateful obelisk of fuzz lumbering through the increasingly violent blasts of feedback and distorted vocal noise that's shot across the soundfield. Ominous synth melodies and dank cave ambience appear later on, but become devoured by vicious feedback lashings a la Prurient and the return of that bottomless crushing doom dirge. Heavy is an understatement.

Packaged in our signature 3-panel Crucial Bliss glossy sleeve, which has been designed by Lord Keeler himself. The disc is attached to the inside of the jacket on a plastic hub, and there is also a small insert card included in the package. Released in an edition of 250 copies.

In an article some years ago, literature nobel prize winner W.S. Naipul was asked how he was able to create characters, and have so much understanding for people. His answer was short: "You don´t write because you understand, you write because you don´t understand."

To him the motivator for writing was that he had an ambition to understand the characters in his novels. I laborated a bit with this idea when working on the piece Cave songs. Prehistoric religions have always been a source of inspiration to me - but I have had problems to approach them in a direct way. Cave songs is based upon a live session, and through the fragments I sometimes feel a hint of the powers of nature. [Label info]

Henrik Summanen keeps publishing music at an ever-increasing pace. And as long as the quality is on this level, I have absolutely no complaints about that. Just like the artist's other recent works, this too falls somewhere on the gray area between electro-acoustic and drone-ambient. With the use of small, wonderfully echoing structures Summanen creates the feel of a cold, hall-like space. It is a soundscape in which every piece seems immensely important and meaningful. The best example of this effect is in the title track, which grows from small drops to a wide, but not at all massive range of drones.

The more landscaping "Out of Orbit" is definitely less interesting, even colder in feel and far more direct - but it's still a good track. "White Hole" is again much stronger. It's clearly more spatial than the opening track, making it sound like an echo in emptiness. A subdued alternation between pauses and structures keeps it fascinating all the way. The album's second gem is its final track, "Southern Wall", an oppressive return to the elements used in the beginning. The tone is a bit warmer this time, though, and the feel is of a slightly smaller space.

The Great Attractor consists of beautiful pieces at all times, yet the sum is even more gorgeous. It is also far better and more impressive than the previous work of this artist (the rather boring "Cave songs" ep, 2006). I hope this won't be left as just a rare delicacy for a very small audience.

Hypnoz is a project of Dmitry Zubov, a musician from Moscow suburb Fryazino, the town that endowed the lovers of post-industrial music with such names as Hum and Staruha Mha. His first composition was recorded in 1993, and during its existence Hypnoz has released one CD on the Moscow label Insofar Vapour Bulk, which gathered tracks from different periods, a couple of very limited CD-Rs, and participated on the compilation "Iznutri" by the Ewers Tonkunst label with a fragment of a composition from this album. Aside from Hypnoz Dmitry plays in several other projects: Zuboff Sex Shop (post-punk / new-wave), Circle Of Iron Tape (harsh noise), BRZB (electronics, with Alexey Borisov), etc. The basis of most of the tracks for "Breath of Earth" was recorded by Dmitry together with Evgeny Voronovsky (Cisfinitum) during their joint night psychedelic sessions, and this is evidently felt in their mood. Stylistically this can be called tranquil electronic ambient with a remarkable experimental touch – but who thinks about it while recording? Slowly twisting sound helixes, drawing inside the astral subspaces, pulsating rhythms, cosmic sounds of old analogue synthesizers, – all this produces an appropriate effect on the listener's mind, and there's nothing more to demand from music.

DYNATOS is the original Greek word which means loud, mighty, possible, potent, potential, powerful, robust, strong, vigorous… Though this term was often used in Byzantium legal manuscripts dated to IX-X centuries to define big land-lords or significant persons in imperial ecclesiastical hierarchy, there is a hypothesis that a major criteria of belonging to dynatos was not property itself but enormous temporal and spiritual power which one had got from hands of the Lord.

This haunting work should be percept as a sermon on what a person is able to do but chooses not to do, on what is possible for humans to do but they don’t want to do, and on what is impossible for them to do even if they want to choose it. The anonymous masters choose to preach in the language of electro-acoustic music instead of the language of words which mean nothing in the tempted world.

The album comes in a special packaging designed by ZonderZond: cd wrapped up in a gorgeous silk piece of cloth, held together inside a laced hard book folder (Ltd x350).

That word came into the orthodox religious tradition from Hellenic: irmos – a motet, and logeyo – to collect. As a single-genre chapel-book, Irmologion was first compiled from a number of irmoses in the 10th century in Byzantium. A full version of the Russian Irmologion includes about 1050 irmoses and reproduces a specific classical structure, which is submitted to so-called “8-glas system” when the irmoses within each “glas” follow the exact order of 9 songs of the Canon.

The purpose of this brief inquiry is to explain the album organization: 9 tracks (Irmos 1-9) in sequence which is of great importance for the perception of music. In fact, IRMOLOGION is far from interpretation of canonic motets; this more resembles a horror-documentary soundtrack redefining one's dark vision of the world intoxicated by deceits, illusions, and errors. Consistently dark and deeply disturbing chants grow up from some distorted references to holy hymns and raise up everything to the level of apocalypse. Here, the Ceremony is no more a source from which the author draws his inspiration but an act provoking him to create a stunning alternative and send this painful challenge to the tempting and rupturing dogma.

Isomer is the solo project of Australian David Tonkin, and remains one of the few active producers of dark ambient music in this far-flung continent. CURRENTS (by Jens Hedman and Paulina Sundin) is a musical tribute to our hometown, Stockholm, portraying the flows and streams in the city from four different sound perspectives. The work also deals with the changing seasons and different times of day. It was composed at EMS in Stockholm and all the sound material was recorded in the city and its districts using a Neumann kunstkopf microphone. The first two parts were composed in 1996 and the remaining two in 1998. Each of the four sections can also be played separately as short electroclips.

The first performance of Currents was at "Hey Listen", the international sound conference for acoustic ecology arranged by the Swedish Royal Academy of Music together with World Forum for Acoustic Ecology (WFAE) and Stockholm European Capital of Culture 1998. Since then the piece has been performed frequently at concerts and has also been used by other artists, such as the Basle Dance Company, which added choreography to the piece during ISCM World Music Days 2000 in Luxembourg. The architect NN created a visual interpretation of Currents for Galleri NN during the UNM Festival in Gothenburg in 1999. Currents is available in three different versions: 2-channel, 8-channel and 12-channel. The 12-channel version was specially made for the open-air pavilion, Elektrofonen, created by Jens Hedman and Christian H–rgren.

Elektrofonen, which is mobile, has toured Sweden and could be seen, among other places, at Stockholm Water Festival in 1999. The 8-channel version has been performed at ACMC in Wellington, New Zealand and at the Rien - Voir Festival in Canada in 1999.

Papaver somniferum, its history begins with the ancient Sumerians who referred to the flower as a plant of joy. The knowledge of the plant was passed throughout the nations and ages. The ancient Egyptians promoted use of opium as a sleep aid, and their pharaohs were buried with opium artifacts. Numerous ancient Greek gods were portrayed wreathed with or carrying poppies. Hippocrates made frequent mention of the poppy for its hypnotic effects and nutritive value. Opium was largely used as a social drug in India and China. In Europe, waned during the Dark Ages, the use of opium was rediscovered in XVI century: the smoking of opium was discovered; prior to this opium was taken orally – the practice of smoking opium is still considered barbaric by some cultures. During 17th and 18th centuries opium became the primary trade commodity between Europe, India and China. In 1803, F.Seturner discovered the active ingredient of opium by dissolving it in acid then neutralizing it with ammonia: the resulting product was morphine. In 1874, C.Write created heroin by boiling morphine over a stove. Opium and its products consumption reached an all time high in Britain in 1830...

Well, the stories told by JSP are as dramatic and mysterious as the history of poppies itself. Incorporating electronics, traditional instrumentations, esoteric vocalizations as well as atypical arrangement and production techniques, «Chiaroscuro» sonic landscapes can earn the praise among a diverse variety of different audiences. The group relies most often on the experimental ambient aesthetic with subtly changes in content and timbre, mixing a warm, clean fusion of deliberate analog synths, gentle guitars, stark trumpet, smart percussive bits, loose and forceful vocal improvisations. An accomplished post-rock architecture of the various elements from synth-music, avant-garde, jazz and rock: the ability to create quite layered and complex, the more you listen to it, modern electro-acoustic psychedelic masterpieces becomes apparent from the very album beginning. The concept of aurally conveying the horror of a gas chamber was realised through field recordings in an abandoned electrical power station in Brisbane in 1992. The sounds are grating and harsh, a mixture of field recordings and electronic manipulations. One can rarely pinpoint a location or action but the images and sounds conjure up all sorts of nefarious activites related to death by machinery.
