At the turn of the century 1900, the western civilisation was spreading its wings over the world, colonizing, baptising and oppressing other cultural expressions. One of the most significant manifestations of this era, is the archaeological excavations and explorations in Mesopotamia, Mesoamerica and Egypt. Professors, adventurers and other explorers of the romantic spirit of the times haunted monuments and grave chambers in their task to steal as much as possible to bring home to the safe western enlightened civilisation. Whole monuments and temples were taken in parts, shipped over thousands of kilometers and reassembled in European capitals, where austere authorities proudly announced their gratitude.

These white-bearded men in dark costumes are personifications of a schizofrenia that distinguish that time. They are both bandits and saviours.

"Musicforshipwrecks" is the third in an occasional series of albums, expanding on the previous volumes "Musicfordrowning" (Lefthand Pressings, 2006) and "Musicforlighthouses" (Quinquaginta, 2007).

I wanted to really tell a story with this installment as this was something I hadn't done across a whole album previously. I also wanted to stick to conventional instrumentation - aside from a voice sample on the opening track, all the sounds are either guitar (tracks 2 and 3) or synthesiser (tracks 1 and 4).

The album was recorded across the first three months of 2008 - during this period, I had to cross a river at least twice a day and the weather was mostly awful. This undoubtedly influenced the album's contents.

I had originally intended this to be the last "Musicfor..." release but I have come to feel that there is one more part of this story to be told.

Leaving Gjallarbr� behind, the large dog Garm that sentinels the gate to Hel is waiting and at his side sits Fjalar, a rooster that will crow to signify the beginning of Ragnarok, the end of the world. This allegoric tale is expressed diligently by Kernicke with the use of guitar, bass, drums and skillful sampling creating thick drony layers of deep and solemn emotions. Amon is one of the earliest music projects of Andrea Marutti from Italy, also active under his own name and the Never Known alias, and also Afe Records label owner.

Andrea began his experiments with music in the early '90s using tapes and concrete elements. A few years later he also began to use synthesizers, samplers and other electronic devices, and founded the Lips Vago Digital Studio.

Several releases of Ambient / Dark Ambient music credited to him were published by labels such as Eibon Records, Amplexus, Silentes, Nextera, Drone Records, Ta�lem, etc. on CD and other medias.

Mortar was a side-project of Moreno Daldosso, mainly active in the Power-Electronics area as Murder Corporation.

Owner of the now defunct Murder Release label - mostly specialized in Power-Electronics / Noise cassette releases - he also released music under the Metastatic and Spiral aliases.

Mortar's trademark lo-fi sound can be easily filed under the Death-Ambient genre, we'd like to remember his ability to create horrifing soundscapes using low-resolution and time-stretched samples of classic music.

During its first years of existence, Mortar music was published - mostly on cassettes - by Murder Release, Slaughter Productions and Old Europa Cafe.

Middle to lower class Edokko praised iki fashion, enjoyed iki situations, behaved with iki discretion to couples, and wished to be iki persons� Iki was defined as consisting of three marks: erotic allure (bitai) with pride (hari) and resignation (also sophisticated indifference, akirame).

In the past ten years Andrei Suchilin has scored for the images of many Russian underground film-directors. Featuring three dark and brooding collage-pieces with lots of artful quotations, this is not easily categorized. Over ten musicians of various background got involved in making this recording. The music evokes a variety of soundscapes, found noises, classical miniatures, and rocky grooves. It flows with the imaginary movie-action, reflecting the intensity of the images yet doesn't overpower them.

Arkhangelsk was recorded in Toronto, Canada in December 2007 in two separate sessions. The first release from Totuuden Sarvi Levyt is a piece of Finnish art destined to remain in the minds of those who hear it. The debut mini-album by Armon Kuilu is a funereal musical journey, two long progressive compositions built out mostly of classical piano, strings, orchestral drums, singing, prayers and invocations in male and female voices. More of a gothic work than a total assault on the senses, yet one must remember that the word gothic is often abused in connotation with just a melancholic form of new age entertainment music but here the soundscapes bring to mind images of forlorn cemetaries, initiatory cults, bloodletting, woodlands and altered states of consciousness. The product of a collaboration between three artists with a divergent, and indeed sometimes opposed, approach of music, this work plainly demonstrates how their musical universes ultimately complement each other along three axes � noise, rhythm and melody.

In 2005 Massimo Magrini was invited to provide a soundtrack for the M3M art exhibition in Pisa/Italy. The exhibition was based around images of the seaside and the rivers estuary of Pisana area with CMASA airplane factory built there in it's centre vis a vis of archaic marine cottages. This marvelous seaside scenery mixed with vintage industrial locations, together with some kind of nostalgia, created an unexpected but amazing mood. To sculpture a soundtrack of this scenery Massimo Magrini was asked to use acoustic and natural sounds too and so he added for this work treated piano and snippets of acoustic guitars together with water sounds and metal samples. This may sound unusual for a BAD SECTOR release but all those new elements are perfectly blent into the massive and ambient soundwaves for what previous releases are known for and making CMASA probably to the most emotional album of Massimo Magrini to date. Now "Baltic Flour Mills" is a well known and modern art gallery in London. But it wasn't in 1997 when Darius Ciuta, the member of legendary Lithuanian noise project NAJ and Arturas Raila, a well known video artist, a present gallery "Baltic Flour Mills" was a forgotten and old mill. Millions of rats ruled the place. In order to get into mill premises, visitors had to sign a pact, which declared non-responsibility for possible accidents. So, in 1997 two artists equipped with special recording devices went to an dangerous trip through the mill in order to record strange air waves and sounds of huge mechanisms. Later in a radio studio, from the collected samples from the mill, "Baltic Flour Mills" record was created. It consists of two long tracks. In those tracks listeners can hear cold and urban "ambient" that sometimes is enriched with special "noise" elements. Music construction methods remind of NAJ album "Resituation" from the PURE series - incoming city sounds, filtrated through mill concrete walls and metal mechanisms can be heard. The background is fulfilled with children, which were never in that mill, cries and sounds of opening the doors, which were locked for years. Album mood towards the end of it is getting more and more worried. Recordings create a grey and paleness sense of the surrounding world. It reminds us that one day, now the fine gallery, will become what it was a long before - a pale ghost in a dark London and instead of the slogan on the walls - "Baltic Flour Mills", only "Alt Our Ills" will remain.

A longly anticipated album "the Danu's Rebith" by "Bararum" project that is just out of production strives to traditions of neofolk sounding. The basic theme of the album is taken from Nik Perumov's novel "the Diamond sword / the wooden sword", whose magical but realistic and bright images have been Strakhinya's and Skryling's inspiration in their rather successful attempt to reconstruct unique atmosphere of the elven, human and gnomes world. And, certainly, wonderful music tells about strange and miraculous people of Danu, about young emperor's way and his unusual love to a girl of Danu. Unprepared listener may find the album a little bit complex to understand - the absence of a vocal, flying fifes tempo, unordinary fiddle parties make compositions really swift and versatile. Produced style of music appears to be quite unique,since the fundamental ideas of compositions are delivered through nonclassical musical tools. It is neither a pseudo-celtic folk nor slavic tunes,in general this music is rather indirectly connected with national one, but it is a certain alloy of new pseudo-ethnic melodies and the modern approach of music creation. His latest work, dawn syndrome, was recorded in 2001 and is dedicated to the end of Kali Yuga, the age of iron, which is the final and most negative of four evolutionary Yugic cycles, the end of the world, and the dawn of a new golden age - Sataya Yuga (the age of purity).

Dawn Syndrome is an eight-track composition of ritual dark ambient crafted in the skillful way Chaos as Shelter is known for. Appearing at times of despair and plagues across Europe, the flagellants believed in punishing themselves in the hope that God would not. Their processions of self-flagellation lasted 33� days, matching the number of years in Christ�s life, and served as penance for their sins and those of others.

The Heavenly Letter refers to the text that they believed was a direct ultimatum from God himself: humanity, failed and corrupt, had one last chance at reform before the destruction of all life. Denounced as heretics by the Church, they were persecuted and driven underground. During the Black Death in 1348, the same letter reappeared with an added paragraph that addressed the plague, and became the manifesto of a reborn flagellant movement. As times went on and the world didn't end as expected, enthusiasm for self-scourging waned and the movement dispersed.

The work here isn't easily digested and is often demanding of one's senses. Slow, churning drones collapse into clattering bells, wheels of noise rotate themselves to oblivion and disembodied flutes and voices accompany the procession on its way to absolution. Sound throbs as one writhing body, and then explodes into morsels of granulated flesh, purity found once again.

"Nevmenosis" is a collection of tracks composed by Eugene Voronovsky between 2001 and 2007 which were remastered by Andrea Marutti of Afe Records on purpose of this release.

Some of them ("Dissolutio", "Moscow 30", "Galene" and "Oskolok") already appeared on compilations published by Ewers Tonkunst, Monochrome Vision and EE Tapes.

The long title track "Nevmenosis" and the shorter "Hermine" are unreleased tracks which are published here for the first time. Contributing members for these tracks were also E. Soloviev, Roman Sidorov (Staruha Mha) and Richardas Norvila (Benzo).

Artwork for the album is based on pictures taken by Russian photographer/artist Vespa_crabro and is a fine addition to the music.

Tactio is the live recording of a Cisfinitum concert at the St. Petri Dom (St. Peter's Cathedral) in Bremen, on November 24, 2005. The particular (and as expected highly favorable) acoustics of this environment were consistently used not only as an enhancing effect but as an integral foundation for the performance, making it unmistakably tied to its context. Presented in the form of six continuous tracks, the album is a contemplative composition of vibrant drones, reverberating bells and synthesized resonance, gracefully evolving from the celestial tones of its start to the tellurian pulses of its climax. C.E.F. was created in 1999 in Pskov, Russia. Their first records combined cliches of metal and breakbeat styles in absolutely perverted and impetuous version. Evolution of the band processed on the way of noise domination, and concentration of sounds per second dramatically increased with every new recording. Cyclotimia is most probably the only project in the world which has chosen the creation of a soundtrack to "globalisation" and life of the "consumer society" as their concept. The project members more than anyone else are immersed into the magic of finance and probably therefore has their creative intuition allowed them to compose the main part of "Music for Stockmarkets" with its unforgivingly precise name "Wallstreet Requiem". Today the whole civilised world is listening to this requiem the first cords of which were played on Wall Street itself.

The "Music for Stockmarkets" album with its radically experimental nature stands out in the extensive discography of this Moscow project. The 64-minute album includes 32 tracks divided into three conceptual parts: "Wallstreet Requiem" (25 minutes, recorded in 2004-2007), "Trivial Pleasures" (26 minutes, recorded in 2002, this part was the only one released as a seperate CD in 2003) and "Financial Glossary" (13 minutes, recorded in 2003).

The music material itself is nothing like the one heard in the previous records of Cyclotimia. There is no apocalyptic soundscapes of "Wasteland" times, no cybernetic hi-tech and media madness of "E$chaton", no cosmic downtempo of "Celestis: Space Ceremonial Music"... Minimalism, academic sterility, surgical accuracy and meditative ataraxy prevail on "Music for Stockmarkets". Then again it is not the familiar "idm", "glitch", "noise", "clicks and cuts" and not "minimal techno"... The sound of the album is chrystal-clear and warm at the same time. Degeneral was formed in the Siberian city of Kemerovo in 2001 and has already recorded several albums none of which has been issued to present day, so "After the World" can be called the first official release of the project. The album sounds like a soundtrack to a mental trip through the lifeless spaces of the world outlived electro-mechanical apocalypse. First monotonous droning tracks unobtrusively bring listener's perception into a laid-back and meditative state. But if there�s no political visions to realize, no higher goal to pursue, no new beginning, no rebirth, then what? Guns go silent only to discover that nothing has really been accomplished. Old structures of injustice remain, recent conflicts are added to old ones. Does this sound depressing? I think it is.

The music on this album is not intended to sound like the blazing guns of a world at war. It is what it is simply because these kind of thoughts went through my head as the music was made. This is not the latest Donis' record. It was recorded in 1997, when Lithuania was still in deepest electronic music crisis. "Vacuum" had waited seven years for his real live in personal Donis' archive. The album consists of only one long track, that could be ascribed to "ambient' stylistics. Tough the sound of album proposes feeling of dark emptiness, it can not be described as "dark ambient". By it's influence "Vacuum" reminds "Coil's" ambient works that take you to the psychedelic trip. Russian project Erthad, originating from Kazan, exists since late 90-ies, but until now still hasn't made any official releases and preferred to stay in underground, recording music only for himself and his friends. We have been endeavouring to change this situation for a long time and now we're glad to present this wonderful disk to your attention. "Gma" was recorded in 2002 with the use of voice and software noise synthesizers. If one says that the album's style is called "ambient noise" - is to say almost nothing. The disk has very specific atmosphere: this is a noise meditation, calm and detached from emotional fuss. An intuitive electronic pulse synchronizes with brain frequencies, rising and falling waves of non-aggressive white noise pacify thoughts, and constantly rustling high frequencies when listened to attentively evoke dissotiative sensation, dissolving perception in the sonic field. However, everything as always depends on a listener himself.
